Got questions about linoleum or vinyl?

Linoleum & Vinyl Floors

What's the difference between Linoleum and Vinyl? are they the same?

At first glance you might assume that Linoleum (Sheet Vinyl) and Vinyl Tiles flooring are exactly the same, but that's not true. You may have even heard a "flooring expert" at a big box store tell you they are the same, again a total misconception.
Well, they do share some common characteristics and can be made to look like wood or stone,  but their composition and long-term use are basically different. Most often consumers recognize  Linoleum as long wide rolls, although planks and tiles are now available. Installation of Linoleum (Sheet Vinyl) should always be done by a professional installer. Vinyl Tiles are usually packaged in a box and typically come in a standard 12" x 12" square, although planks are now available to simulate a wood appearance.

Professional installation is required for warranty!

Armstrong Flooring recommends that you visit their website for complete installation and maintenance instructions required for the warranty!

Linoleum Flooring
Linoleum is made from natural materials like linseed oil, recycled wood flour, cork dust and limestone. Linoleum is naturally anti-bacterial and biodegradable. If you are looking for a "green" floor for your home, linoleum is one of the best choices!

How long will Linolem last? About 30 years which makes it  more durable compared to Viny

Linoleum is very resilient and durable. It's anti-bacterial, anti-static and it doesn't burn.  It's color-fast, repairable, and considered a green product. However, Linoleum is only water resistant and caution is advised for use directly over concrete slabs. Therefore, many manufacturer's only warranty their prouduct by stipulating  proper subfloor preparation and installation by an experienced flooring  professional.
We agree! Our advice........don't install it yourself.

Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl Flooring is made from a type of plastic called PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) a product derived from oil.   Vinyl is water resistant making it a good choice over concrete slabs like we have here in San Diego county. It's an excellent product for kitchens and bathrooms.

How long does Vinyl last? About  10-15 years which makes it less durable compared to Linolem and less expensive.
Available in endless styles and patterns that simulate natural wood and stone it's a budget friendly choice for many consumers.

Rubber Flooring
Rubber Flooring is generally made from recycled tires. It's a great product for both residential and business use.
It's lead and latex free so it's safe for use in childrens playrooms and it's used extensively in office buildings as a  work-friendly floor to counteract employee fatigue. If you've been working out at the gym lately you've seen it there too.

Rubber flooring is available in rolls and interlocking tiles in various colors, thickness and density.
